Bavaria Inaugurates an USD 11.6 Million Power Co-generation Plant

Last  August 25, the Electric Power Generation Plant of Cerveceria de Barranquilla was officially delivered; a significant progress in the rational use of energy and the mitigation of climate change, which required a US$11.6 million investment, as a result of Bavaria’s commitment to the environment and, particularly, the reduction of its energy and carbon footprint.

Nearly 11 months of work were invested by Bavaria in the development and preparation of this project, which includes a generation unit operated by a natural gas turbine that will contribute to reducing carbon footprint, with an approximate reduction of 5.500 tons of CO2 per year; these emissions are currently being certified by the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Changes.

In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, the turbine contains a system known as SoLoNOX, which allows the system to be less contaminating by reducing the NOX gas emissions that affect ozone layers to the levels demanded by the regulation, without using water in the process.

“We are gathered here today to announce one of the most important initiatives of Bavaria in its 120 years of operation: the installation and commissioning of the first Electric Power Co-generation Plant ever in the company. This is a source of pride for Bavaria, but we also want Barranquilla to feel proud, as this is the city that we chose, among all of our operations country-wide, for the implementation of this important initiative aimed at the rational use of energy and the mitigation of climate change”, affirmed Fernando Jaramillo, Vice President of Corporate Affairs of Bavaria during the inauguration.
