The rationalization in resource consumption, the reduction of our carbon footprint and the important environmental investments were the actions that the panel of judges of the Portafolio 2009 Awards acknowledged from Bavaria to grant the prize in the Environment Protection category.
Fernando Jaramillo, Vice-president of Corporate Affairs, received the statuette on behalf of the Company during the awarding event held at Club El Nogal in Bogotá last November 26. "This is another incentive for our environmental efforts, a public acknowledgement that indicates that we are heading the right way", explained the Vice President.
The Environment Protection category that acknowledges the companies that stand out for their contribution in the defence and protection of natural resources through the use of clean technologies or processes included Carbones del Cerrejón, Carvajal, Estación de Servicios Grupo Magra and Metro de Medellín as finalists.
Bavaria’s environmental management compiled in the Sustainable Development Report of F08 allowed reducing energy consumption in 34% and water consumption in 18% between 2002 and 2008, recycling 93% of the residues generated by the company, reducing our carbon footprint thanks to projects such as the Power Co-generation at Cervecería de Barranquilla and undertaking the change of our bottle lots and our truck fleet for less contaminating options.
“For Bavaria, it is not sufficient to be one of the most renowned brands among Colombians. Neither is it enough to be among the top 10 private companies for revenues, nor being the main manufacturer in the country. Today, for this brewery, the environmental commitment grows as the froth of its main product. This green policy, which distinguishes it as a company highly committed to the environment, became more evident since 2005, when it was absorbed by the South African multinational company SABMiller”, indicated Portafolio in its award summary.
